Do you have a Canon printer and want to know how to connect it with your laptop? You’re in the right place.
“Canon printers are fantastic for printing photos, documents, and more. But what if you want to print from your laptop? This is where things can get tricky. You’ll need to connect the printer to your computer in one of these five ways.”
The first time I tried to install my printer on my new laptop, it took me about 10 minutes and a lot of frustration. It wasn’t until I read that Canon printers are compatible with most operating systems, except Linux that the lightbulb went off in my head and I realized how easy this process could be.
In 5 simple steps, I will show you how this can be done:
1. Connect the printer to your laptop with a USB cable
The directions say to plug the small end of the USB cable into my laptop and then insert the larger end into a little hole on the printer. While I’m doing this, I curse myself for not reading any instructions before opening up my new toy. What am I supposed to do now? The cord is too short!
Finally, after some trial and error, everything seems plugged in properly. So, it starts beeping at me again telling me that there are no images loaded onto the memory card or paper in tray one. Wait, what? Is this thing broken? Okay- maybe it just needs time so I figure waiting ten minutes will solve all my problems but when nothing happens after 15 minutes (again), I decide.
2. Turn on your printer and wait for it to finish warming up
3. Open the Canon software that came with your printer, or download it from their website
4. Click “Add” in the top right corner of the screen
5. Select “Connected Printer” from the list of options and click “Next”
